One of the things that addiction stole from me, in the middle of the horrible chaos in our home, was empathy and compassion.
It stole from me the ability to see my loved one’s value and to see their struggle and suffering. I got to the point where all I saw was the manipulation, the lies, the negative choices and I lost sight of grace and mercy.
It’s hard to feel compassion for someone who is hurting you. It’s hard to imagine the struggle they may be going through, when time and again, their actions actually cause the struggle. It’s hard to picture them suffering, when their behavior is causing you great suffering.
So if you're having difficulty seeing your loved one through our Heavenly Father's eyes today, pray with me. It may not immediately change their circumstances or our circumstances but it will definitely change our hearts.e of the things that addiction stole from me, in the middle of the horrible chaos in our home, was empathy and compassion.
November 23, 2014 Our prayer for our loved one today:
Psalm 25:16-18,20,22 NIV
[16] Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. [17] Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. [18] Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins. [20] Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. [22] Deliver Israel, O God, from all their troubles!
Father God, we come before you today expectantly, knowing you are working in our lives. We call out to you on behalf of (our loved one) today. We pray that You would turn to (our loved one) and be gracious to (him/her) for (he/she) is lonely and afflicted. Lord, relieve the trouble of (our loved one's) heart and free (him/her) from (his/her) anguish. Look to (his/her) affliction and (his/her) distress and take any oppression away from (him/her). Guard (our loved one's) life and rescue (him/her). We ask that you do not let (our loved one) be overwhelmed with shame and that (he/she) would chose to take refuge in you alone! Deliver (our loved one) oh Lord from all of (his/her) troubles. We ask this today because we know that you love (our loved one) more than we do and we won't stop asking until these things come to pass. In Jesus precious name we pray. Amen!!
