Dustin changed my life. I only encountered him for about 2 hours one evening as we were serving meals for our homeless ministry. He came up for prayer after the service, shaking from the affects of the alcohol that he had now been without for a few hours. He had tears in his eyes as he shared his story. He had lost both of his siblings and his mother within the last few months. All he had left was a son that he didn’t have custody of. The weight of all he had been through made him look much older then his 28 years. He was tired. He was worn out. And he was ready.
As I prayed with him his demeanor changed. The tears dried and his shoulders raised up just a little bit. The hope of Jesus was filing him up. I could see the physical changes as peace came over him. He wanted to go to detox that night, so I offered to take him. And in that car we were able to have a 20 minute conversation about his life, his sobriety and a vision for his future.
When he walked through the door to the detox, he looked back at me and said “I’ll never forget this night.” As I walked away, myself now in tears I reflected on how the power hope of Jesus Christ touched Dustins heart deeply that night and gave him the peace to do the next right thing.
My friends... in your own suffering, as you put your hope in Him, I pray that you too, would be filled to overflowing with power, with joy and with His perfect peace. And I pray that our own loved ones would have a similar encounter. One that will bring them peace.
July 21, 2018 Our prayer for our loved one today
Romans 15:13 NIV [13] May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Abba Daddy, we thank you because you are a good, good daddy. Everything good and perfect comes from You. And we thank you that we don't have to walk this difficult journey alone. Lord, today we pray that You, the God of hope would fill (our loved one) with hope. Fill (him/her) with the joy and peace that can only come when (he/she) trusts in You. Lord, we pray that the power of the Holy Spirit would touch (our loved one) so that (he/she) would overflow with HOPE today. Touch (our loved one) Lord. Draw us all to you today. Wrap us up in your love. In Jesus precious name we pray. Amen.
